Import and export your reviews
At a glance
- What you get
- Your old reviews inside the app, with no duplicates, and a copy of yours whenever you want.
- Time
- 15 minutes

Before you start
- Your catalogue is synced: reviews attach to the products the app knows. See Installation.
- You have the file to import, in CSV format. In your old app, look for the review export feature and download the file. The app recognises Judge.me and Yotpo files on its own. For Loox and other files it reads the column names.
- The file is 8 MB at most.
Each row of the file needs at least the rating, the review text and the reviewer’s name. To attach the row to the right product the app uses, in this order, the product ID, the handle (the last part of the product page’s address), the page address, the SKU, the barcode or the title.
Note: photos and “verified” badges from the old file are not imported. An imported review always arrives Waiting and is Not verified.
Look at the preview
The preview writes nothing: it shows you what would happen.
-
Open Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Reviews. On Overview press Open the guided setup and, in the Review import box, press Go to import.
What you’ll see: the Import page, with the Choose the file field.
-
Press Choose the file and pick the CSV file from your computer.
What you’ll see: the file name appears next to the button.
-
Press See what would happen.
What you’ll see: a blue box says which format it recognised (for example “I recognised a Judge.me file.”). Below it, the Preview box with the numbers: … to import, … already there, … to decide, … rows skipped.
-
Read the numbers and the list Rows the file does not allow us to import, if there is one. Each row says what’s missing, for example “Row 12: «rating» is missing”.
What the numbers mean:
| Number | Meaning |
|---|---|
| to import | Reviews that will be created |
| already there | Reviews imported before: they’re skipped, no duplicates |
| to decide | Rows the app can’t attach to a single product: they’re not imported |
| rows skipped | Rows with missing or invalid data |
Import for real
Warning: after Import for real the reviews are created and there’s no button to delete them. They stay waiting, so nobody sees them until you publish them; if you don’t want them, you can archive them.
-
If the preview looks right, press Import for real in the box below the preview. If the box asks you to choose the file again, choose it: it must be the same one.
What you’ll see: the Import finished box with the number of reviews imported. At the bottom of the page, the Previous imports list has one more line.
- Open Reviews: the imported reviews are on the Waiting tab.
- Publish them one by one, or all at once with Publish all pending (…). See Moderating and replying.
Tip: uploading the same file again creates no duplicates. The preview tells you so: “This exact file was already imported on …”.
Export your reviews
You can download your reviews whenever you like, on every plan. The file can be imported back into this app.
- Open Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Reviews › Settings, Data and privacy section, and press Export your reviews.
-
In the Export section, press Export the reviews.
What you’ll see: the green File ready box with the Download the file link.
-
Press Download the file.
What you’ll see: your browser downloads a CSV file whose name starts with “recensioni-“ followed by the date.
If something goes wrong
“The import stopped at row … of …”. The file is large and the app stopped to stay within the time limit. Upload the same file again and press Import for real: rows already imported are left alone.
Many rows are “to decide”. The app can’t find the product. Check that your catalogue is synced and that the file has the product handle or the product page address. Fix the file and upload it again: rows already imported are skipped.
“This file cannot be read”. The file isn’t a valid CSV. Export it again from your old app or, if you opened it in a spreadsheet, save it again as CSV.
“The file is too large”. Split the file into two or more smaller files and import them one at a time.
