What you need
- A Shopify store. The app doesn’t require any particular Shopify plan.
- An Online Store 2.0 theme. Stars and reviews are added to your store as “blocks” from the theme editor. Shopify’s free themes, such as Dawn, accept app blocks. Very old themes don’t. How to tell: if you can’t find the IFG Reviews blocks among the app blocks in the theme editor, your theme doesn’t accept them.
- Permission to install apps. If you own the store, you already have it. If you’re a staff member, ask the owner to give you permission to manage apps.
- Orders that get shipped. The email asking for a review goes out after the order ships, not after payment. If you mark orders as fulfilled in Shopify, the app sees it on its own.
Details to have at hand
- Your store’s email address in Shopify. Customers’ replies to the request emails arrive there, and so does the test email. If your store has no contact address, the app tells you on the Requests page.
- Your store’s time zone. Emails go out at the time you choose, in the time zone set in Shopify. If the store has none, the time is UTC.
- If you’re switching review apps: the file exported from your old app (Judge.me, Yotpo, Loox) or a CSV file with at least the rating, the text and the reviewer’s name. See Import and export.
- If you want to send from your own domain (Grow and Unlimited plans): access to the panel where you registered your domain, to add a few records. See All settings.
Warning: review requests are switched on from the moment you install the app. After every shipped order, the app schedules an email for 7 days later, at 10:00. If you’d rather decide the timing and check the email first, open the Requests page straight away: it’s explained in Setting up request emails.
What the app does
- Asks for a review of every product in a shipped order, with an email sent in your store’s name.
- Keeps every new review Waiting until you approve it.
- Shows stars and reviews on your store with theme blocks: product page, home page and a page with all your reviews.
- Marks as Verified purchase the reviews that come from the link in a request tied to a real order.
- Imports reviews from your previous app and exports yours to a file whenever you like, on every plan.
- Collects customers’ questions about your products, which you publish with your answer.
What the app doesn’t do
- It doesn’t change your theme files. You add and remove the blocks yourself, in the theme editor.
- It can’t see your theme. It can’t tell whether a block is active: you confirm it in the guided setup. Shopify doesn’t give it that permission.
- It doesn’t publish anything on its own. Every review waits for your approval.
- It doesn’t let anyone mark a review as verified by hand. Not you, not us.
- It doesn’t import photos or “verified” badges from old files. An imported review always arrives waiting and is not verified.
- It doesn’t use artificial intelligence on review text.
- It does not guarantee stars on Google. Google decides.
- It has no button to delete a review. You can hide it or archive it. See Moderating and replying.
- It never charges more than your plan. When the month’s requests run out, new ones wait.
If something goes wrong
I can’t install the app. Your account doesn’t have permission to install apps. Ask the store owner.
I don’t know whether my theme is Online Store 2.0. Open the theme editor from Online Store › Themes › Customize, go to a product page and press Add block. If the list has a group of app blocks, your theme is fine.
