Show stars and reviews on your store
At a glance
- What you get
- Reviews and stars visible on your store's product pages.

Before you start
- The app is installed and your catalogue is synced. See Installation.
- Your theme accepts app blocks (an Online Store 2.0 theme). See Before you start.
The app doesn’t change your theme and can’t read it. You add the blocks yourself, with the app’s buttons that open the theme editor in the right place. Then you confirm in the app that you’ve done it.
Warning: the theme editor works on your published theme, the one your customers see. When you press Save, the block appears on your store straight away.
Add the reviews to the product page
- Open Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Reviews.
- On Overview, press Open the guided setup and scroll down to the Theme widget box.
-
Press Reviews on the product page.
What you’ll see: the theme editor opens in a new tab, on a product page, with the IFG Reviews — reviews block already added in a new section.
- Look at the preview. If you want to move the block, drag it in the list on the left.
- Press Save at the top right of the editor.
Add the stars under the title
-
Go back to the app’s tab and press Add the stars to the product page.
What you’ll see: the theme editor, with the IFG Reviews — star badge block at the bottom of the product’s main section.
- In the list on the left, drag IFG Reviews — star badge just below the product title. Shopify doesn’t let a link choose the position, which is why you move it by hand.
- Press Save.
Tip: while a product has no reviews, the stars never show an empty rating. If you want, they show an invitation to write one instead: that’s the Show an invitation when there are no reviews option.
Check and confirm
-
Open a product page on your store, outside the admin.
What you’ll see: the stars under the title and, further down, the reviews box with the button to write one. If the product has no published reviews yet, the box says “No reviews yet”.
-
Go back to the app, in the Theme widget box, and press I added the block.
What you’ll see: “Setting saved.” and the step turns Done.
The other blocks (optional)
The same box has more buttons. Each one opens the editor with the block already added; then you press Save.
| Button in the app | Block in the theme editor | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Questions on the product page | IFG Reviews — questions | Product page: customers ask questions, you answer |
| Carousel on the home page | IFG Reviews — carousel | Home page: a scrolling strip of recent reviews |
| Store reviews on the home page | IFG Reviews — store reviews | Home page: reviews of the store itself (service, shipping) |
| Trust badge on the home page | IFG Reviews — trust badge | Home page: one line with the average and number of reviews |
| Photo gallery on the home page | IFG Reviews — photo gallery | Home page: the photos attached to reviews |
Then there are two embeds: they apply to every page of your store and are switched on from App embeds in the editor.
| Button in the app | Name in the editor | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Floating reviews button | IFG Reviews — floating button | A fixed button in a corner that opens the latest reviews |
| Review pop-up | IFG Reviews — review pop-up | A small card with a real review, a few seconds after the visitor arrives |
-
Press the button for the embed you want.
What you’ll see: the theme editor open on App embeds, with the embed switched on.
-
Press Save.
Note: the IFG Reviews — all reviews block has no button. It’s for a store page that lists all your reviews: you add it by hand to a page template, as explained in Widgets.
Change colours and appearance
Colours, columns, heading and corners are changed in the theme editor, not in the app.
- Open Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Reviews › Settings.
- In the Widget appearance section, press Open the theme customiser.
-
In the editor, click the block you want to change (for example IFG Reviews — reviews).
What you’ll see: the block’s settings on the right, such as Layout, Columns on desktop, Star colour.
- Change what you need and press Save.
The most useful settings of the reviews block:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Heading | The heading above the reviews. Empty = heading in your store’s language |
| Layout | Photo card grid or Single-column list |
| Columns on desktop | From 2 to 4. On phones it’s always two (one below 360 px) |
| Show the star breakdown | The bars showing how many reviews each rating has |
| Let visitors write a review here | Shows the form to write a review |
| Add the rating to the page’s structured data | Gives search engines the product’s rating. Turn it off if your theme or another app already does |
| Colours and Corner radius | Leave them empty to use your theme’s colours |
Every block and every option is in Widgets.
Optional: the link on the order confirmation page
The app can add a “Write a review” link under each product on the thank-you page the customer sees after buying. It’s off until you switch it on, in Shopify’s checkout editor.
- Open Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Reviews › Settings and find the Diagnostics section.
- In the Link on the order confirmation page row, press Open the checkout settings.
- In the checkout editor, go to the order confirmation page and choose Order confirmation link.
- Switch on Show a review link under each purchased product. If you want different wording, write it in Link text.
- Press Save.
- Place a test order and check that the link appears under each product.
Note: a review written from this link isn’t “verified”. The Verified purchase badge only comes from the request email.
If something goes wrong
I can’t find the block in the editor. Your theme, or that section, doesn’t accept app blocks. Try the app’s button instead of looking for it by hand. If it still doesn’t appear, your theme isn’t Online Store 2.0.
I saved but I don’t see the reviews on my store. Check that you pressed Save in the editor and that you’re looking at the published theme. If the product has no published reviews, you only see the invitation to write one. If you’ve just published a review and can’t see it, open Reviews in the app: if the notice “The product pages are not up to date yet” is there, press Update the product pages.
The stars appear at the bottom of the page. The link puts them at the bottom of the main section. Drag them under the title in the editor and press Save.
A Google tool reports two ratings for the same product. Your theme or another app already publishes a rating. Turn off Add the rating to the page’s structured data in the reviews block.
