Export free · automatic folder backup with Pro

Your purchases only exist on your iPhone. If the phone is lost or breaks, without a copy you lose them. Scontrik gives you two ways to keep a copy: export, free, which you run whenever you want, and folder backup, with Pro, which keeps itself up to date.

Before you start

You need at least one saved purchase: with an empty library these items are disabled. Everything starts from Settings (the gear at the top right of the home screen), in the Backup and Your data sections.

Export all data (free)

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Under Your data, tap Export all data.

    What you’ll see: after a few seconds the item turns into Share export.

  3. Tap Share export.

    What you’ll see: the iOS share sheet opens with the file «Scontrik-Export.zip».

  4. Tap Save to Files and choose where (iCloud Drive or a connected drive, for example), or email it to yourself.

The ZIP file contains:

  • the originals folder with all your proofs exactly as you saved them, with readable names (date, store, amount);
  • the attachments folder with the extra documents;
  • purchases.csv, a spreadsheet with all purchases that opens in Numbers or Excel;
  • purchases.json, the same data in a format Scontrik can read back;
  • the return and warranty rules you saved;
  • a README.txt file explaining the contents.

Export is free on every plan, even if you stop paying for Pro.

The sheet for the accountant

  1. In Settings › Your data, tap For the accountant.

    What you’ll see: the For the accountant window opens.

  2. Under Year, choose the year.

    What you’ll see: you see how many purchases it contains and the totals, split into «Confirmed by you» and «Read from documents».

  3. Tap Create spreadsheet.

  4. Tap Share spreadsheet and send or save it.

  5. Tap Done.

The sheet only contains values you confirmed or that were verified on the document, each with where it comes from. Purchases without a confirmed date are left out, and the app tells you how many. The sheet doesn’t calculate tax.

The inventory for insurance

A PDF of what you own: purchase price, serial number and, if you attached one, a photo of the product.

  1. In Settings › Your data, tap Inventory for insurance.

    What you’ll see: the Inventory window opens with the list of your purchases.

  2. Turn on the purchases to include.

  3. Tap Create PDF.

  4. Tap Share inventory.

  5. Tap Done.

Note: the inventory lists what you bought and for how much. It isn’t a valuation and it isn’t insurance advice.

Automatic folder backup (Pro)

Scontrik keeps an up-to-date copy of your purchases in a folder you choose, for example on iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive in the Files app.

  1. Open Settings and go to the Backup section.

  2. Tap Choose a folder. Without Pro the item is called Backup to a folder and has a Pro label: tapping it opens the Pro page.

    What you’ll see: the Files app opens.

  3. Choose the folder and confirm.

    What you’ll see: the first backup starts right away. A «Scontrik-Backup» folder appears inside the folder you chose. In Settings the item shows the folder’s name, and Back up now, Back up automatically, Last backup and Stop backing up appear.

  4. Turn on Back up automatically.

With Back up automatically on, Scontrik updates the copy when you open the app, if at least 20 hours have passed since the last backup. You can always tap Back up now. Last backup tells you when the last one ran.

Note: the backup mirrors your library. If you delete a purchase, it also disappears from the backup folder the next time.

To stop, tap Stop backing up. The «Scontrik-Backup» folder already created stays where it is: delete it from the Files app if you no longer need it.

If your Pro subscription ends, automatic backups are paused («Automatic backups are paused. Pro brings them back.»). The copy already made stays in the folder.

Restore your purchases

Useful on a new iPhone, after reinstalling the app, or to recover deleted purchases.

  1. If you start from an export, first open the «Scontrik-Export.zip» file in the Files app: when you tap it, iOS unpacks it into a folder.

  2. In Scontrik, open Settings.

  3. Under Your data, tap Restore from a backup.

    What you’ll see: the Files app opens.

  4. Choose the «Scontrik-Backup» folder (or the folder that contains it), or the folder unpacked from the export.

    What you’ll see: at the end you see, for example, «Restore finished. New: 12. Already in your library: 3. Not restored: 0.»

You can run the restore again without creating duplicates: proofs that are already there are recognised and skipped.

Watch out: after restoring, check the warranty and return reminders you need by opening your most important purchases.

If something goes wrong

«Export all data» is greyed out. You don’t have any saved purchases yet.

I see «The backup folder is no longer available. Choose it again.» The folder was moved, renamed, or the storage service isn’t available. Tap the folder’s name under Backup and choose it again.

The restore says «Not restored: 2». Some files in the folder are missing or damaged. Check that the folder is complete, for example that iCloud Drive files are downloaded to the phone, and try again.

I changed iPhone and Scontrik is empty. Scontrik doesn’t sync your data between phones. Restore it from the backup folder or from an export, as explained above.
