In Scontrik every saved document is called a proof: a receipt, an invoice, a sales slip, a warranty card. You can add one in five ways. Pick the one that suits you.
Before you start
You need to have opened Scontrik at least once (Download and first launch). On the free plan you can save up to 20 proofs: the counter at the top of the home screen tells you how many are left.
With the camera (paper receipts)
Lay the receipt on a flat surface, ideally on a dark background and in good light.
On the home screen, tap Add proof, the purple button at the bottom right.
What you’ll see: four options open above the button: Scan document, Choose photo, Choose file or PDF, Import a folder.
Tap Scan document.
What you’ll see: the first time, iOS asks for permission to use the camera. Allow it: without permission you can’t scan.
Frame the receipt. At the bottom you see three modes: Auto, Assisted (the starting one) and Manual.
What you’ll see: with Assisted, when the app finds the document you see «Document found. Tap to capture.»
Tap the round white button to take the picture.
What you’ll see: the screen flashes, you hear the shutter and «Page 1 captured» appears. At the bottom left a thumbnail of the last page appears, with the number of pages taken.
If the document has more pages, turn the sheet and capture again. Repeat for every page.
When you’re done, tap Done at the bottom right.
What you’ll see: the page review opens, with the preview and the look options.
Choose the look: Document (black and white, sharp: this is the starting one), Color, Grayscale or Original.
If needed, tap Adjust and move the Brightness, Contrast and Sharpness sliders. Reset puts everything back.
Tap Save.
What you’ll see: «Saving proof…» appears at the top, then Proof saved with «The original is safe on this device.» The purchase opens while the app reads the document.
Tip: the three camera modes. Auto captures by itself as soon as the document is steady. Assisted finds the document and waits for you to tap. Manual doesn’t look for the document: you frame it and tap. Your choice is remembered, and you can also change it in Settings › Scanning.
During the page review you can also:
- tap Rotate to turn the page;
- tap Delete page to remove it;
- tap Camera (top left) to go back and add or retake pages.
In the camera, the lightning button at the top right turns the Flash on or off. Tapping the thumbnail at the bottom left removes the last page you took.
From a photo you already took
Tap Add proof.
Tap Choose photo.
What you’ll see: your iPhone’s photo library opens.
Tap the photo of the receipt.
What you’ll see: «Saving proof…» appears, then Proof saved, and the purchase opens.
You can pick one photo at a time.
From a file or a PDF
Handy for invoices you received by email or downloaded from a website.
Tap Add proof.
Tap Choose file or PDF.
What you’ll see: the Files app opens.
Find the file (a PDF or an image) and tap it.
What you’ll see: the document is saved and the purchase opens.
If the PDF has a password
Some invoices arrive password-protected. In that case the Password-protected PDF window opens.
Type the password in the Password field.
Tap Unlock.
What you’ll see: Scontrik reads a copy without the password and keeps the original file exactly as it is.
If you see «Wrong password. Try again.», check upper and lower case and type it again. If you tap Cancel, nothing is saved.
A whole folder
Useful if you already have many invoices in a folder in Files, for example on iCloud Drive.
Tap Add proof.
Tap Import a folder.
Choose the folder in the Files app and confirm.
What you’ll see: the Import a folder window opens. First you see «Looking for documents…», then «Importing 3 of 12» with the name of the current file.
Wait until it finishes. If you want to stop, tap Stop: whatever was already imported is kept.
What you’ll see: you see the summary, for example Imported: 10, Already in your library: 2.
Tap Done.
The app only imports PDFs and images. Documents you already have are skipped. On the free plan, those beyond the 20-proof limit are left out, and the summary says so («Left out because of the free limit»).
Note: reading the documents takes a little while. Anything doubtful will appear under To check.
From another app (Mail, WhatsApp, Safari, Files…)
In the other app, open the document or the attachment.
Tap the iOS Share button (the square with the arrow pointing up).
In the row of apps, tap Save to Scontrik. If you don’t see it, scroll to the end of the row and tap More.
What you’ll see: «Saving proof…» appears, then «Proof saved. Open Scontrik to finish import.»
Open Scontrik.
What you’ll see: the proof joins your library and the purchase opens.
You can share images and PDFs.
What happens after saving
Scontrik saves the original first, then reads it. On the purchase you see «Reading the receipt…», «Finding merchant, date and total…», «Checking every value against the source…». When it’s done, in the What we found section every detail is either Verified or To check. To confirm the doubtful ones, go to the next page.
Note: if you save the same file twice, you see «Looks like a duplicate. The original is safe.» and the purchase shows Duplicate?. The purchase is created anyway: if you don’t need it, delete it from the purchase menu (see Documents, history and details).
If something goes wrong
I see «Camera access is off». Tap Open Settings in the message and turn on Camera for Scontrik.
The «You’ve filled your free space» panel appears. You already have 20 proofs on the free plan. Saved proofs stay readable. To add more, go Pro (Scontrik Pro and subscriptions) or permanently erase the ones you don’t need.
I shared a file but it isn’t in Scontrik. Open Scontrik: shared documents join the library when the app opens. If you see «Some shared items couldn’t be imported.», share them again.
The photo came out crooked or dark. In the page review, try the Document look or Adjust, or go back to the Camera and retake the page.
