Before you start

The settings are in Apps › IFG WebP Image Optimizer › Settings. They’re the same ones you saw in steps 1 and 3 of the guided setup.

The settings one by one

Setting What it does Starting value When to change it What happens if you change it
App language Chooses the language of the app’s text. Your store’s language doesn’t change. Automatic (Shopify account language) When you want the app in a language other than your Shopify account’s. The app’s text switches to the chosen language. Available languages: Italiano, English, Deutsch, Français, Español, Português.
WebP quality of photos Decides how much the WebP file of photos and animated images is compressed. Written as a percentage, from 60 to 100. 90: photos that look the same as the original. Lower it if you want lighter files and accept softer detail. If you’re not sure, leave it at 90. Applies to the next conversions, “Convert all” included. Files already converted do not change.
Photographic PNGs: allow lossy compression On: a PNG that is really a photo becomes a lighter WebP when it stays visually faithful. Off: every PNG stays lossless. On Turn it off if your PNGs must stay pixel-identical, for example product photos with very fine detail. Applies to the next conversions. Logos and drawings are always lossless, either way.

Change a setting

  1. Open Settings.

What you’ll see: the title Settings and the boxes Language, Image quality and Always like this, no switches.

  2. Change the value you want: pick from the App language menu, type a number in WebP quality of photos or flip the PNG switch.

What you’ll see: at the top Shopify shows a bar with the buttons Save and Discard.

  3. Press Save. To go back to the previous values, press Discard.

What you’ll see: the message “Settings saved.” and the bar closes.

If the quality number isn’t valid, “Enter a whole number from 60 to 100.” appears under the field and nothing is saved.

What can’t be changed

The box Always like this, no switches lists three fixed rules:

Development stores only: Developer reset

On a Shopify development store the page also shows the Developer reset box. On a real store this box isn’t there.

The reset brings the app back to a first install: it clears the app’s inventory, scans, conversions, undo records, locks and counters, and sets the language back to the Admin’s. It doesn’t touch Shopify: files, products and descriptions stay as they are.

Warning: the reset can’t be undone. After the reset the app no longer knows which images it converted, so it can no longer undo those conversions. If you want the originals back, undo before the reset.

  1. In the field “Type RESET to confirm” type RESET.
  2. Press Clear the app’s data.

What you’ll see: “Reset done. Rows deleted:” with the number of records deleted. The next time you open the app it starts again from the guided setup.

If something goes wrong

“We couldn’t save. Try again in a moment.” appears. Press Save again in a few seconds.

I don’t see the bar with Save and Discard. It only appears after you change a value. If you changed one and it doesn’t appear, reload the page and try again.
