Before you start
You need a complete catalog scan: the list shows the images found by the last scan. If you haven’t done it, read Scan your catalog.
Open the list
-
In Shopify Admin open Apps › IFG WebP Image Optimizer › Images.
What you’ll see: a table with the columns File name, Status, Format, Size and Used in. Above it are a search box and a filter menu. On a phone the table becomes a list.
Image statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| To convert | The image isn’t WebP and the app hasn’t converted it yet. |
| Converted | The app created the WebP file and moved the references onto it. |
| Already WebP | It was WebP before the app: there’s nothing to do. |
| Failed | The last conversion stopped after three attempts. Open the image’s page to see what happened. |
Search and filter
- Type part of the name in the Search by file name box. The list narrows as you type.
- Open the filter menu and choose what to see:
- All: every image;
- To convert: the ones still to do, failed ones included;
- Converted: the ones converted by the app;
- Already WebP: the ones that were already WebP;
- Out of reach: the ones used directly by the theme, where the app leaves the original.
What you’ll see: only the matching rows. If there are none, the message “No image matches this filter.”.
Understand the “Used in” column
- “3 places”: the app checked everything and found the image in three places.
- “at least 3 places”: it found it in three places, but couldn’t check everything. There may be more.
- “Nowhere”: it checked everything and didn’t find it used.
- “we don’t know”: it couldn’t check enough to say.
When part of the store couldn’t be read, the box “These numbers are a minimum, not a total” appears above the table, with the reason: for example the theme couldn’t be read, or a permission is missing for pages and articles.
Open an image’s page
-
Click the file name.
What you’ll see: the image’s page. At the top, the file name as the title and the link Images to go back to the list. Below, the status, format, dimensions, size and a preview.
- Scroll to Where it’s used. Each row says the kind of place and its name:
- Product gallery with the product’s name;
- Product description;
- Page;
- Blog article;
- Collection description;
- Theme section, for the theme files that reference it.
If the image appears several times in the same text, the row adds “Appears N times in the text”.
- Read the box The starting file stays. The link with the file name opens the original in a new tab.
Between the preview and “Where it’s used” is the Convert to WebP box: the page Convert a single image explains it. For an Already WebP image the box isn’t there, because there’s nothing to convert.
If something goes wrong
The list is empty and says “We haven’t looked at your catalog yet.”. Press Scan the catalog on that same screen.
I can’t find an image I uploaded recently. The list shows what the last scan found. Go back to the Overview and press Update the scan.
“Your catalog has more images than one page can show” appears. The list shows the first 1000 images and search only looks through these. “Convert all” still works on the whole catalog, up to 20,000 images.
“We could not read pages and articles” appears. The app doesn’t have the permission for pages and articles yet. Approve the new permission when Shopify asks you, then scan again.
