What the app does
IFG WebP Image Optimizer turns the images of your Shopify store into WebP, one file at a time. For each image it creates a new .webp file next to the original and moves onto it the product gallery, the variant images and the images written in the text of products, pages, blog articles and collections. The original file is never deleted, and every conversion can be undone.
The app is made for people who run a Shopify store and want their images in WebP without risking broken links. You don’t need to know how to code.
Note: the app converts files; it does not promise a faster store. Shopify already serves modern formats for resized images, and on the stores we measured the weight of images dropped by only a few percent.
Recommended path
- Before you start: what you need and what the app does not do. 3 minutes.
- Installation and first setup: the four steps of the guided setup. 5 minutes.
- Scan your catalog: the app reads your images without touching them. 2 minutes plus the wait.
- Find an image and see where it’s used: the list and the page of each image. 5 minutes.
- Convert a single image: a first try, on one image only. 3 minutes.
- Convert all your images: the rest of the catalog, one image after another. Depends on how many there are.
- Undo a conversion: put the original back where it was. 2 minutes.
