Scan your catalog
At a glance
- What you get
- Know how many images you have, how many are already WebP and where each one is used.
- Time
- 2 minutes, plus the time the scan takes
- Plan
- All plans
Before you start
The guided setup must be complete. If you haven’t done it, follow Installation and first setup.
The scan only reads: it touches no image and changes nothing in the store. You can run it as often as you like, and it uses no conversions from your plan.
Open the Overview
-
In Shopify Admin open Apps and then IFG WebP Image Optimizer. The app’s name in the Shopify menu always opens the Overview.
What you’ll see: the Overview page. At the top, the app’s name with your plan (Free or Unlimited) and the label Not scanned yet. Below, two buttons: Scan the catalog and Images. Then three numbers: the percentage “of your images are WebP”, “Images in the store” and “Still to convert”. At the bottom, two boxes: Getting started (with “0/2”) and Images in your theme (with “Not checked yet”).
Before the scan the numbers come from a quick count. If the store has many images you’ll see “more than 1000” instead of the exact total.
Run the scan
-
Press Scan the catalog.
What you’ll see: the label changes to Scan in progress and the phases appear under the buttons: “Reading your image library…”, “Checking your products…”, “Checking pages, articles and collections…”, “Checking your theme…”.
-
Wait without closing the page. A few seconds are usually enough; a large catalog takes longer.
What you’ll see: the label changes to Catalog scanned and “Last check:” appears with the date and time.
Warning: the scan moves forward while the Overview stays open. If you close the page before it ends, press the scan button again when you come back.
Read the results
- The percentage tells you how many of your images are already WebP or already converted. Below it is the exact number, for example “12 already WebP”.
- Images in the store is the total of your images. The WebP files created by the app are not counted: they are copies, not new images.
- Still to convert is what’s left to do.
- In the Getting started box the step “Scan your catalog” becomes Done and the counter moves to “1/2”. The second step, “Convert your images”, is done when nothing is left to convert.
- The Images in your theme box tells you whether the theme uses some images directly:
- Used by the theme: “N images stay on the original in v1”. The theme references them directly, the app does not rewrite those references and leaves them on the original file, which keeps working.
- None found: the theme uses no image directly.
- Partial check: not everything could be checked, so “none” is not a certainty.
- Couldn’t be read: the theme couldn’t be read.
After the scan the buttons at the top change. The first becomes Convert all if there is something to convert, or Go to images. The second becomes Update the scan.
When to scan again
Press Update the scan when:
- you’ve uploaded new images;
- you’ve added or changed products, pages, articles or collections;
- an image you’re looking for isn’t in the list.
If something goes wrong
“Scan stopped” appears. The message says “The scan stopped. Try again — it picks up where it left off instead of starting over.”. Press Update the scan (or Scan the catalog) again. If you write to support, open Technical detail and copy the line you see.
“We couldn’t read the catalog” appears. The numbers show “—” because the app doesn’t know how many images there are. Reload the page. If it keeps happening, the store may have revoked the app’s permissions: reinstall it or write to support.
Next to the app’s name it says “Plan unreadable”. Shopify didn’t answer about the plan at that moment. The scan works anyway; reload the page later.
