Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of IFG WebP Image Optimizer ("the app"), published by IFG eCommerce, a sole proprietorship of Francesco Guiducci based in Rome, Italy ("we", "us"). They apply to you as a merchant installing the app on your Shopify store. They do not replace your agreement with Shopify, and they are not legal advice.
What the app does
- It reads your store's image library and builds an inventory of your images and of where each one is used.
- It converts an eligible image to WebP by creating a new
.webpfile next to the original, then moves the references it can reach (product gallery, variant images, and image links written in the text of product descriptions, pages, blog articles and collection descriptions) onto the new file. - It never deletes the original file. The original stays at its address, so links that still point to it keep working.
- While the app is installed, it can undo a conversion it made, restoring the previous state it recorded. In texts (product descriptions, pages, blog articles, collection descriptions) it puts back only the image links it changed, from the copy of the text it kept before the change; if you have since changed or removed those very links, it leaves that text as you left it and tells you.
- It reports where it found an image used, including in theme files, but it does not modify your theme.
Some files are skipped and the app tells you so: images that are already WebP, non-raster files such as SVG, files above 20 MB, and images larger than 80 megapixels (JPEG) or 40 megapixels (other formats). Photos above 4472 pixels on a side or 20 megapixels are scaled down, keeping their proportions, to fit Shopify's limits.
What the app does not promise
Please read this section.
- It is a converter, not a speed tool. We do not promise a faster store, better Core Web Vitals, better search ranking, more conversions or more sales. In our measurements on a real store the effect on the total weight of images on a page was about 3–5%, and often none, because Shopify already serves modern formats for most image links.
- The inventory may be incomplete. The app finds references only where it can read them. When it could not read a source it says so; a missing reference is not proof that none exists. Images referenced elsewhere (theme code, other apps, external sites, emails) keep pointing to the original file, which still exists.
- The app does not edit theme files. It edits product galleries, variant images, and image links in product descriptions, pages, blog articles and collection descriptions. Images chosen directly in the theme and the cover images of collections and articles stay on the original file.
- No guarantee of identical pixels. Images are converted at high quality, but WebP is a different format, so a converted image is not guaranteed to be pixel-identical to the original. Review the results.
- No uninterrupted or error-free service. Software has bugs, and the app depends on Shopify's platform, which can change its behaviour. We offer no availability commitment (SLA).
Your responsibilities
- Having the right to use and modify the images and product content of your store.
- Reviewing the outcome of conversions, especially on products that matter to you, and using undo where needed. Before a large run it is sensible to keep your own backup or export of your product data.
- Keeping your Shopify account and access secure and complying with Shopify's terms.
Plans, limits and billing
The app may offer a free plan with a limit on the number of conversions and paid plans with higher limits. The plans, limits and prices in force are those shown in the app and on Shopify's approval screen before you subscribe. Any paid plan is billed through Shopify. You can change or cancel your plan at any time from the app or your Shopify admin. Cancelling stops future charges and does not by itself create a right to a refund of amounts already charged, except where the law requires one.
Limitation of liability
You use the app at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including lost sales or profits, loss of search ranking, loss of reputation or business interruption, whether or not they were foreseeable.
These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, in particular for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, nor do they affect any liability towards data subjects under Article 82 GDPR or any other mandatory statutory liability.
Services we depend on
The app runs on, and communicates with, services operated by third parties: Shopify and Google Cloud. Outages, changes or failures of those services are outside our control. See the Privacy Policy for how data is handled.
Processing on your behalf (Art. 28 GDPR)
In providing the app, IFG eCommerce processes the content of your store as a processor on your behalf, following the documented instructions in the Privacy Policy: solely to provide the app's features, never for its own purposes. These terms and the Privacy Policy together form the agreement between the parties on this processing. If your organisation needs a separate data processing agreement, write to info@ifgecommerce.com.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. On uninstall, data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy: after the erasure the undo records are gone and undo is no longer possible. Converted files and updated references stay in your store. We may suspend or end access if the app is used unlawfully, in a way that harms the service or other merchants, or in breach of these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app evolves. The date at the top identifies the text in force.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Italian law. For disputes, the courts of Rome, Italy have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory rule that gives jurisdiction elsewhere. These terms are published in Italian and English; in case of discrepancy, the Italian version prevails.
