How to use IFG WebP Image Optimizer, from install to undo, in five steps.
1. Install and open the app
Install IFG WebP Image Optimizer from the Shopify App Store and open it from your Shopify admin, under Apps. There is no separate account or login. The app asks for access to your files, products and content, and reads your theme without changing it. It does not ask for customers or orders.
2. Scan your catalogue
On the Overview page press Scan the catalogue (Update the scan after the first time). The app reads your images and where each one is used: product galleries, variants, product descriptions, pages, blog articles, collections and theme files. Scanning only reads: no image is touched and nothing is changed. The Overview then shows how many of your images are WebP and how many are still to convert.
3. Find your images
Open Images to see every file with its format, size, where it is used and its status. Use the filters To convert, Converted and Out of reach, or search by file name.
4. Convert
- One image: open it from Images, check Where it's used and press Convert to WebP.
- Convert all: converts every image still to convert, one at a time, while the page stays open. If you close it, you pick up where you left off: what is done is not done again.
Each image gets a new .webp file next to the original. The product gallery, variant images and images written in the text of product descriptions, pages, blog articles and collection descriptions move to the new file. Images chosen directly in the theme stay on the original file, which keeps working. While a conversion is running, don't edit the products that use that image.
5. Check and undo
Each image's page lists where it is used. Undo puts the original back everywhere the app moved it, descriptions word for word, and the conversion is given back to your plan count. The original file is never deleted.
Plans
Free converts 100 images in total. Unlimited has no cap. You choose the plan from Plans in the app; billing goes through Shopify.
