Before you start
Keep your email, legal details and return address at hand: the full list is in Before you start.
Install the app
- Open the Shopify App Store and search for IFG Returns & Withdrawals.
-
On the app page, click Install.
What you’ll see: Shopify shows you the list of permissions the app asks for.
-
Check the permissions and confirm the installation.
What you’ll see: the app opens inside the Shopify admin. For a moment the bar “Loading the app” appears, then the setup wizard. A blue bar at the top shows how far along you are.
From now on the app is in the left-hand menu of the admin, under Apps › IFG Returns.
Step 1 of 4 — Legal Notice
The screen title is “Step 1 / 4 — Legal Notice”. Here you choose the app language and enter the details that appear in emails to customers.
-
In the App interface language menu, keep Automatic (Shopify account language) or choose a language.
What you’ll see: the wizard texts switch to the chosen language straight away.
- Read the blue box “Your return rules, managed right here”. It reminds you that the app does not use Shopify’s native return rules.
- In Admin notification email, type the address where you want to receive new requests, for example
info@yourstore.com. - In the Merchant Legal Data section, fill in Business Name / Store Name and Registered office address.
- In the Return Shipping Address section, fill in Street Address, ZIP / Postal Code, City and Country. If goods come back to your registered office, click Copy from Legal Data above: the office address is copied into the street field, then you complete postal code, city and country.
-
Further down is the text to add to your store’s legal page. Click Open Shopify Legal Settings ↗.
What you’ll see: your Shopify store’s refund policy page opens in a new tab.
- Go back to the app tab, copy the text in the grey box and paste it into the “Refund Policy” section of the Shopify legal page. Save the page in Shopify.
-
Go back to the app and click Continue →.
What you’ll see: the blue bar moves forward and step 2 appears.
Warning: the text you paste into Shopify is visible to customers on your refund policy page. Read it through and adapt it to your business before saving.
If Continue → stays grey, something is missing: the email is not valid or one of the legal data or return address fields is empty.
Step 2 of 4 — Data Processing Agreement (DPA)
The DPA is the contract that lets the app process, on your behalf, the data of customers who send a withdrawal. It is required by law (Art. 28 GDPR).
-
Read the text in the box and scroll it to the end.
What you’ll see: until you reach the end, the hint “↓ Scroll to the bottom to enable the “I accept” button” is shown. When you reach the end, the hint disappears.
- Below the box is the sentence “By completing setup you also accept the Terms of Service.” To read them, click Read them here ↗.
-
Click I accept the DPA.
What you’ll see: step 3 appears.
If you click Reject DPA, the red box “You rejected the DPA” appears: without the DPA you cannot complete the setup. To go back, click Reconsider — Read DPA. To return to step 1, use ← Back.
Step 3 of 4 — Theme Integration
Here you connect the form to your theme. You can do it now or later: this step does not block you.
- Read the grey box “How to publish the form on a page”: it sums up the 5 steps explained in detail in Publish the form on your store.
-
Click Open Shopify Theme Editor ↗.
What you’ll see: the editor of your published theme opens in a new tab, on the “App embeds” panel.
- Add at least one app block and save the theme, following Publish the form on your store.
-
Go back to the app tab and click Verify Activation.
What you’ll see: the green badge “Return form detected in theme” appears next to the button. If the badge is red, “Return form not detected yet”, the published theme does not contain an active block yet.
- Click Continue →.
Tip: if you’d rather set up the theme later, click Continue → right away. The theme status is always visible on the Overview, in the “Theme integration status” section.
Step 4 of 4 — Choose Your Plan
You see three cards — Free, Grow and Unlimited — with the monthly price, the included features and, below them, the full comparison table. Prices and differences are explained in Plans and billing.
- Read the cards and decide which plan to start with. You can change it whenever you like from the Plans page.
-
Click the button of the chosen plan: Activate Free, Activate Grow or Activate Unlimited.
What you’ll see: the button changes to “Activating…”.
-
If you chose Free, setup is complete.
What you’ll see: the wizard closes and the app’s Overview opens.
-
If you chose Grow or Unlimited, Shopify opens its subscription confirmation page, with the price and any free trial days. Confirm the subscription.
What you’ll see: you return to the app, on the Overview, with the chosen plan shown next to the IFG Returns name.
Warning: confirming Grow or Unlimited on the Shopify page starts a paid subscription, charged by Shopify on your store invoice after any trial days.
After setup: the Overview
The Overview is the app’s first page. It contains:
- at the top, the IFG Returns name with the active plan and the compliance badge. It turns green, “Compliant with Art. 9 EU Dir. 2011/83/EU”, once the DPA, legal details, theme block and a period of at least 14 days are all in place;
- the buttons Go to withdrawals and Manage plan;
- three numbers: Open, Closed and Total, with the requests “Sent today”;
- the list of launch steps with a counter from 0 to 5, which you open and close with Show steps / Hide steps;
- the Theme integration status, the Latest withdrawals and the Help and resources section.
In the bottom-right corner of every app page you’ll find the support chat button.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see the install button. Your account isn’t allowed to install apps. Ask the store owner.
I reloaded the page halfway through. The wizard resumes from the step you were on, with step 1 details already filled in, if you use the same browser.
After choosing Grow or Unlimited I see the red box “Error while saving”. Shopify didn’t answer in time. Wait a few seconds and click the plan button again.
I closed the Shopify confirmation page without confirming. You pay nothing. Setup still counts as complete and the app stays on the Free plan. To move to Grow or Unlimited, open the Plans page.
