The app is right for you if
- Your business is based in Italy. The app handles an Italian tax obligation: outside Italy you don’t need it.
- You are under the ordinary VAT regime. Under the flat-rate regime (regime forfettario) the register is usually not required: check with your accountant before starting a paid plan.
- You sell online with Shopify to customers who usually don’t ask for an invoice.
What you need
- Access to the Shopify admin as the store owner, or as a staff member allowed to install apps.
- Taxes set up in Shopify. The app uses the VAT that Shopify actually calculated on each order: it never estimates it or types it in. If a rate is missing in Shopify, the order ends up among those to check.
- Your company details, if you want them on the documents: company name, Italian VAT number (11 digits) and address. They are optional and you can add them later.
- Your accountant’s email, if you plan to use automatic sending (Unlimited plan). This is optional too.
No special theme is needed: the app adds nothing to your online store and your customers never see it. It only asks Shopify for permission to read orders, not your customers’ personal details.
Orders with an invoice
An order where the customer asked for an invoice does not belong in the takings. The app recognises it in two ways:
- from Shopify’s tax ID field (Italian tax code or VAT number) filled in at checkout;
- from an extra order field with one of these names: Partita IVA, P.IVA, VAT, Codice fiscale, CF, Codice SDI, SDI, Codice destinatario. This is typical of invoicing apps.
If your checkout collects none of these, the app treats every paid order as a sale without an invoice.
Tip: if you use an invoicing app, check what name it uses to save the VAT number on the order. If the name differs from the ones above, the app won’t recognise it.
What the app does not do
- It sends nothing to the Agenzia delle Entrate. Electronic transmission of daily takings is a separate obligation for merchants with a physical point of sale and an electronic till.
- It does not import orders from before installation. The register starts on the day you install the app. The earlier period has to be documented separately with your accountant.
- It does not issue invoices and does not connect to accounting or invoicing software.
- It does not sign documents digitally, add timestamps or provide legally compliant digital archiving (conservazione sostitutiva): those stay with your accountant or the archiving provider you choose.
- It does not give tax advice. How to treat a specific case is up to your accountant.
- It does not translate the documents: PDF, Excel and CSV are always in Italian, even if you use the app in English.
