These explanations help you understand the app. They’re not tax advice: for your specific case, ask your accountant. Italian terms are given in brackets because they appear in the app and in the documents.
Tax and VAT
- Takings (corrispettivi)
- Revenue from sales for which you don’t issue an invoice, usually sales to private customers.
- Register of daily takings (Registro dei Corrispettivi)
- The register required by art. 24 of Presidential Decree 633/1972, where the total takings are recorded day by day, split by VAT rate.
- Ordinary VAT regime (regime IVA ordinario)
- The standard VAT regime, where you charge VAT on sales and keep VAT registers. It’s the regime the app is built for.
- Flat-rate regime (regime forfettario)
- A simplified Italian regime with lighter bookkeeping; it usually doesn’t require the register of daily takings.
- VAT rate (aliquota IVA)
- The VAT percentage applied to a sale. In Italy the rates are 22%, 10%, 5% and 4%.
- Taxable amount (imponibile)
- The sale amount without VAT.
- Tax (imposta)
- The VAT calculated on the taxable amount.
- VAT extraction (scorporo)
- The calculation that separates the taxable amount and VAT from the price paid, VAT included.
- Invoice (fattura)
- The tax document you issue when the customer asks for one. A sale with an invoice doesn’t go into the takings.
- Invoiced order
- An order with a VAT number, tax code or SDI code: the app excludes it from the takings so VAT isn’t counted twice.
- VAT number (Partita IVA)
- The 11-digit number that identifies an Italian business for VAT.
- Tax code (codice fiscale)
- The code that identifies a person or a company to the Italian tax authority.
- SDI code (codice destinatario)
- The code, usually 7 characters long, that tells the Italian e-invoicing system where to deliver an electronic invoice.
- Reversal (storno)
- The entry that removes a refund’s amount from the register.
- Closed day
- For the app, a day whose recording deadline has passed, that is the next non-holiday day: from then on it’s never changed.
- Late entry (annotazione tardiva)
- An operation that arrived when its day was already closed: the app records it on the current day and states the real day.
- VAT due (IVA esigibile)
- VAT becomes due when it’s owed to the State; the app flags when that month differs from the month it was recorded in.
- OSS (One Stop Shop)
- The EU scheme for distance sales to consumers in other EU countries, charged with the destination country’s VAT.
- Non-taxable (non imponibile, art. 8)
- Sales shipped outside the European Union, which don’t carry Italian VAT.
- Exempt (esente, art. 10)
- Operations the law exempts from VAT.
- To classify (da classificare)
- An amount without a recognised rate: the app keeps it separate until you check it with your accountant.
- Agenzia delle Entrate
- The Italian tax authority. The app sends it nothing.
- Electronic transmission of takings (trasmissione telematica dei corrispettivi)
- The daily submission of takings to the Agenzia delle Entrate, required for merchants with a physical point of sale and an electronic till. The app doesn’t do it.
- Compliant digital archiving (conservazione sostitutiva)
- Legally compliant storage of digital documents, with signature and timestamp. The app doesn’t do it.
- Accountant (commercialista)
- The professional who keeps your books and advises you on tax.
