Installation and setup

IFG Reviews installs like any Shopify app and never edits your theme’s files. Its blocks are added from the theme editor, and you can remove them the same way.
Install
- Open the IFG Reviews listing on the Shopify App Store and choose Install.
- Review the permissions Shopify shows you and approve them.
- The app opens in your Shopify admin. Later, open it from Apps in the admin menu. Opening the app address outside Shopify shows a page that sends you back to your admin.
Permissions the app asks for
The app asks for two permissions and uses each one for a specific job. They are declared in the app’s configuration, and the app asks for nothing else.
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
write_products |
Reading your catalogue, so each review is tied to the right product (reading is included in this permission), and writing the app’s own data (rating summary and first page of reviews) onto your products, so your theme can show them. Shopify requires this permission to write that data. The app does not edit your product titles, prices or descriptions. |
read_orders |
Proof of purchase behind a Verified purchase review, and the trigger for a review request after an order is fulfilled. |
The app takes the customer’s name and email from the order to send the request. It does not ask for phone numbers or postal addresses. See Privacy and data for the full list.
Guided setup
The Guided setup page lists the steps below and shows how many are done. Open it from the setup card on Overview.
1. Installation and language
Choose the language of the app inside your admin: Italian, English, German, French, Spanish or Portuguese. This changes what you see. It does not change what your customers see: customer emails and review pages follow the language of the customer’s order. If that language is not one of the six, they are in English.
You can change the language later in Settings → Admin language.
2. Product sync
Select Sync the catalogue. The app reads your products so reviews have something to attach to. After the first sync, products you create, edit or delete in Shopify reach the app on their own. Very large catalogues may need a second press of the button: the app says so when that happens.
3. Review import
Optional. If you already have reviews in Judge.me or in a spreadsheet, go to Import and follow Migration. Nothing is written until you have seen a preview.
4. Collection rules
Select Set up the requests to open the Requests page. Requests stay off until you switch them on (on the same page or in the Activation step): until then no customer gets an email. There you choose:
- How long to wait after shipping: 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 21 or 30 days. The default is 7.
- At what time: an hour of the day in your store’s time zone. The default is 10:00. If your store does not report a time zone, the hour is in UTC.
- Reminder (Grow and Unlimited): one reminder, 7 days after the first email, only to customers who have not answered.

5. Email sender
Requests are sent in your store’s name, from the app’s sending address. Replies from customers go to your store’s contact email on Shopify.
On Grow and Unlimited you can send from your own domain instead, for example
reviews@yourstore.com. In Settings → Email sender, enter the address and the domain, add
the DNS records the app shows you (three or four) where your domain is registered, then select
Verify. DNS changes can take from a few minutes to a few hours. Until the domain is verified,
emails keep going from the app’s sending address. A dedicated subdomain is recommended, and
myshopify.com or shopify.com domains are not accepted. If you move to a plan without this
feature, emails go back to the app’s address and your domain setup is kept for if you return.
To finish the step, open Requests and select Send me a test email. The test goes only to
your store’s contact email on Shopify, carries [TEST] in the subject, does not count towards
your plan’s monthly requests, and is limited to five per day. If the app tells you email sending
is not active yet, the test cannot be sent. The same status appears in
Settings → Diagnostics → Email sending.
6. Theme widget
Add the blocks with the buttons below, then press I added the block to mark the step as done. The app has no permission to read your theme, so it cannot tell whether a block is switched on: after saving in the editor, open a product page on your store and look for the reviews. If the editor does not offer the block, you need an Online Store 2.0 theme.
To add blocks, use the buttons in this step. Each one opens the theme editor with the block already in place:
| Button | Block | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Reviews on the product page | IFG Reviews — reviews | Product template, in a new Apps section |
| Stars under the product title | IFG Reviews — star badge | Product template, inside the main section |
| Carousel on the home page | IFG Reviews — carousel | Home page, in a new Apps section |
| Store reviews on the home page | IFG Reviews — store reviews | Home page, in a new Apps section |
Check the preview and select Save in the theme editor. Nothing changes on your live store until you save. You can also add the blocks yourself: in Online Store → Themes → Customize, open a template, choose Add block or Add section, and pick one from the Apps group. The IFG Reviews — all reviews block is not in the buttons: add it to a page of your own, as described in Widgets.
Block settings such as colours and layout live in the theme editor. See Widgets.
7. Activation
This is the switch for emails to your customers, and it is off until you switch it on. The box sums up when the email will go out (days after shipping, and the hour); press Switch requests on to turn it on. From then on requests come from orders shipped after you switched on, not from earlier ones. Switch requests off stops them and cancels the ones already scheduled, which don’t restart if you switch back on.
Check that it works
Settings → Diagnostics reads the whole chain and reports each part as fine, to fix, or not verifiable right now: the theme, product sync, storefront alignment, review requests, email sending, automatic jobs and photos. If you write to support, quote the support code shown there.
Uninstall
Remove the blocks from your theme if you wish, then uninstall the app from the list of installed apps in your Shopify admin.
- Sending stops straight away.
- Shopify then asks the app to erase your store’s data, typically about 48 hours later. When that request arrives, your reviews, requests, photos, counters and settings are deleted for good.
- Export your reviews first if you want to keep them. After the erasure there is nothing left to export.
