Before you start

Run the audit

  1. Go to Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG GEO Optimizer › Catalog audit.

What you’ll see: two buttons at the top, Catalog audit (selected) and Content rewriting. Below them are the Catalog and Integration & structure tabs. This guide page covers the Catalog tab.

  2. Press Rescan catalog at the top right.

What you’ll see: after a few seconds the message “Scan complete — N products analyzed.” appears and the product table fills up. A large catalog can take a minute.

Note: on the Free plan the audit covers at most 20 products and keeps only the latest audit. The “Unlock your full catalog” box says so. With Grow and Unlimited the audit covers your whole catalog and keeps the history.

Read the table

Each product gets two separate scores:

The table columns are Select, Product, Structured data (with the status Complete, Incomplete or Critical), What’s missing, GEO score, Content extractability and Action. With the All, Critical, Needs work and Good filters you see only the products in one status.

Tip: the extractability score uses rules designed for Italian. If your catalog is in another language a warning appears: the value may come out higher than it really is.

In the Action column each product has at most one button: Fix, Resolve, or nothing if there’s nothing to do automatically.

Fix with “Fix”

Fix appears when the only thing missing is the technical specifications and the product has options (size, colour, material) to derive them from. It doesn’t use AI.

  1. Press Fix on the product’s row.

What you’ll see: the “Fix “product name”” window, listing the options that will be added to the product’s data. Nothing else changes.

  2. Press Apply fix.

What you’ll see: the green “Fixed” label appears on the row and the score updates.

Fix with “Resolve”

Resolve uses AI to prepare, in one go, everything that can be fixed for that product: technical specifications, a clearer description, FAQs and the image alt text. How many times you can use it each month depends on your plan: 3 on Free, 20 on Grow, 100 on Unlimited.

  1. Press Resolve on the product’s row.

What you’ll see: the “Resolve: product name” window. It says what the AI will do (for example “Generate FAQ drafts from this product’s attributes”) and shows the “Path to green”: how many points are missing to green, what the app does by itself (“We’ll handle it”) and what it needs from you (“We need your input”), for example a real photo or the barcode.

  2. Press Generate.

What you’ll see: “Here’s what the AI wizard did for this product:”, the score change (“GEO Score: 40 → 72”) and a card for each draft: specifications, rewritten description with Original and Rewritten, FAQs, alt text.

  3. Read each draft. You can edit the description and FAQ text directly in the fields.
  4. For each draft that’s fine press Approve and publish; for those you don’t want press Discard. Or press Approve all (+N points → N/100 · N drafts) to approve all drafts at once.
  5. Press Close.

Warning: Approve and publish publishes the text to your store straight away. The rewritten description replaces the current one and the app doesn’t keep a copy of the old one: if you want to keep it, copy it from the Original column before approving.

Note: specifications derived from the product’s options are saved immediately; everything else stays a draft until you approve it. If an FAQ or description contains numbers that weren’t in the product data, a warning appears: check them before approving.

Resolve several products at once

  1. Tick the box in the Select column for the products you want to fix. The box only appears on products that Resolve can improve. You can pick up to 10.
  2. Press Resolve all (N) above the table.

What you’ll see: the “Resolve N products?” window. If you have fewer uses left than products selected, it warns you that only the first ones will be resolved.

  3. Press Start.
  4. For each product the Resolve window opens with “Product 1 of N”. Review and approve the drafts as above, then press Next product.

What you’ll see: at the end, the message “Resolved N products”.

Edit a product from the app

You can correct the title, description and search engine texts by hand without leaving the app.

  1. Press the product’s name in the Product column.

What you’ll see: the “Edit “product name”” window with the fields Product title, Description, SEO title, Meta description and Image alt text. Under the description there’s a preview of how it will be saved.

  2. Edit the fields. To format the description use the Heading, Subheading, Bold and Bullet list buttons.
  3. Press Save changes.

What you’ll see: the message “Product updated”.

Warning: your changes go live in your store straight away. If you edit the description, headings, bold, lists, images, tables and web links are kept when you save; italics, colours, embedded videos and other formatting become plain text. For a text with special formatting, use Shopify’s product editor.

If something goes wrong

I see “Shopify has temporarily throttled requests for this store — your catalog is likely very large. Try again in a minute.” Your catalog is large and Shopify slowed down requests. Wait a minute and press Rescan catalog again.

Instead of Resolve I see a pill with a padlock. You’ve used all your Resolve runs for the month. Try again from the first day of next month, or upgrade from Plans.

The Resolve window says “The description is there, but it contains no technical specs stated word for word (materials, dimensions, weight). We do not invent them: add them to the product description and try again.” The app doesn’t make up specifications: add materials, measurements or weight to the product description in Shopify and try again.

I see “Your catalog is larger than this scan’s safety limit: some products weren’t analyzed. A rescan starts again from the first products, so it won’t cover the remaining ones.” Your catalog is larger than the limit of a single audit. Each new audit starts again from the first products.
