What you need
- A Shopify store with the Online Store channel and a published theme. The app works on the pages of your online store: without a published theme it has no pages to improve.
- Permission to install apps. If you own the store, you already have it. If you are a staff member, ask the owner to give you permission to manage apps.
- At least one active product. The catalog audit, the simulator and the FAQs work on active products. With an empty catalog, the app’s pages ask you to add a product.
- Products published on the Online Store channel, if you want to see the result in your store. An unpublished product can be audited, but no AI bot can reach it.
- For the FAQ block on product pages, a theme that lets you add app blocks to the product page (Online Store 2.0 themes, such as Dawn).
Details to have at hand
During the first setup the app asks for some information. It is all optional and you can change it later in Settings, but with these details at hand you finish faster:
- Returns: how many days customers have to return a product, and who pays for return shipping.
- Shipping: how many days pass between the order and shipping, how many days the parcel travels, how you charge for shipping (free, flat rate, free over a threshold, variable, calculated by the carrier) and the country you ship to most.
- Company: one sentence describing what you sell, your legal company name, VAT number, business register number, address and links to your social profiles.
Tip: the app tries to fill in shipping country, legal name, description and address with what Shopify already knows. VAT number and business register number you have to type yourself: Shopify doesn’t provide them.
App language
The app is available in 30 languages. By default it uses your Shopify account language. You can change it in the first setup step or later in Settings. It only changes the app’s menus, buttons and labels: it does not translate your store or your product texts.
What the app does not do
- It doesn’t guarantee citations. It makes your catalog easier for AI engines to read, but the engines decide whom to cite.
- It doesn’t publish anything without you. FAQs, rewritten descriptions and image alt texts drafted by AI stay drafts until you press the approve button.
- It doesn’t make up data. It doesn’t create photos, barcodes (GTIN/EAN) or technical specifications the product doesn’t have. If something only you know is missing, it tells you.
- It doesn’t change the robots.txt file or the official address of your pages (canonical URL). Your theme manages them: the app tells you if something is wrong, and you or whoever looks after your theme makes the change.
- It doesn’t turn on theme blocks by itself. Shopify doesn’t let apps do that: you turn on the GEO Schema block and the GEO FAQ block once from the theme editor. This guide shows you how.
- It doesn’t publish the collections it creates. The automated collections proposed by Link Coach are created unpublished: you review and publish them.
