Adding the builder to your theme

Before you start

The builder is an app block you add from Shopify’s theme editor. Your theme code is not changed and you can remove it anytime.

  1. Go to Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Build Your Box › Settings.

  2. In the Builder in the theme section, select Add to box pages.

    What you’ll see: the theme editor of your live theme opens on the product page template, with the Build Your Box block already added in a new full-width section.

  3. Check the preview. If the theme editor shows a random product, pick the product page of one of your boxes at the top to see the builder with its products.

  4. Select Save at the top right.

    What you’ll see: Shopify’s message confirming the save. From now on the page of every active box shows the builder.

The same Add to box pages button is also on Overview, in the Show the box to customers panel, which appears once you have at least one active box.

On a box page the builder replaces the theme’s buy buttons: the customer buys only from the builder. This is the block setting Replace the theme’s buy buttons on box pages, on by default. Leave it on.

Warning: the block is added to the product page template, which usually all your products use. On the pages of products that are not boxes, the block shows the default box (the first one you published). Preview a normal product too and make sure you like the result before selecting Save.

On the home page or another page

  1. Go to Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Build Your Box › Settings.

  2. In the Builder in the theme section, select Add to home page.

    What you’ll see: the theme editor on your home page, with the Build Your Box block in a new full-width section.

  3. Drag the section to where you want it on the page.
  4. Select Save.

Outside box pages, the builder shows the default box: the first box you published. If you move it to draft, the builder shows nothing until you publish another box. You can also add the block by hand in the theme editor, on product, collection, home and regular pages: add an apps section and choose Build Your Box.

Change the block’s look

Select the Build Your Box block in the theme editor’s left column to change layout, product cards and colours. See Builder appearance and the full list in All settings.

Remove the builder

  1. Open the theme editor on the page with the builder.
  2. Select the Build Your Box block and remove it (or hide it with the eye icon).
  3. Select Save.

Warning: without the builder, an active box page goes back to showing the theme’s buttons, but the box can’t be bought without choosing the products. If you remove the builder, move your boxes to draft too.

Troubleshooting

I select the button but the theme editor doesn’t open. Your account may not be allowed to edit themes. Ask the store owner, or open the theme editor from Online Store › Themes › Customize.

In the theme editor I see a “Build Your Box” panel with a message instead of products. There is no box to show for that page: no box is active, or you are on a page that isn’t a box page and the default box is in draft. Publish a box or preview the product page of an active box.

I see the builder, but also the theme’s buy buttons. The block setting Replace the theme’s buy buttons on box pages is off. Turn it on and select Save.
