Creating a box
At a glance
- What you get
- A box saved as a draft, with its price and products chosen.
- Time
- 10 minutes
- Plan
- All plans
Before you start
- The app is installed and you chose language and plan: see Installation.
- The products you want in the box exist in Shopify and are active. The app’s picker does not show draft or archived products.
A box always starts as a draft: no customer sees it until you publish it, so you can experiment safely.
Open the form
- Go to Shopify Admin › Apps › IFG Build Your Box › Boxes.
-
Select Create box. If you have no boxes yet, the button is in the “Create your first box” panel.
What you’ll see: the New box page, with five numbered sections: Name and price, Box products, Composition rules, Appearance, Summary.
You can also get there from Overview with the Create your first box button.
Section 1: Name and price
-
In Box name, type the name customers will see, for example “Beauty Routine”. It can be 1 to 120 characters long.
What you’ll see: Shopify’s save bar appears at the top, with Create as draft and Discard. It stays visible while you scroll.
-
In Fixed price, type the box price. The field starts at 70.00 and shows your store currency. You can use a comma or a dot and at most two decimals.
The price you type here is the real price of the box product in Shopify. The customer pays this, whatever products they choose.
Section 2: Box products
You can choose single variants, whole collections, or both. The maximum is 100 variants per box, counting the ones you pick by hand and those from collections. You can use up to 20 collections.
Choose variants
-
Select Select variants.
What you’ll see: Shopify’s product picker opens. It only shows active products.
- Tick the variants the customer can put in the box.
-
Confirm your choice in the picker.
What you’ll see: a card for each variant appears under the buttons, with product name, variant and price, and a Remove button. Next to the buttons you read the count, for example “6 variants · 0 collections”. The button becomes Change variants.
Add a collection
- Select Add collections.
-
In Shopify’s picker, tick one or more collections and confirm.
What you’ll see: a card for each collection with its name, the note “Variants are read when you save”, a Remove button and two fields: Min from this collection and Max from this collection.
- Leave both fields empty if you don’t need a rule for that collection. How to use them is explained in Composition rules.
Note: the app reads a collection’s products when you save the box. If you later add or remove products in that collection in Shopify, open the box and save it again to refresh the list.
Section 3: Composition rules
Here you decide how many items the customer must choose. The starting values are Minimum items 3, Maximum items 3 and Max per variant 1, meaning “exactly 3 different products”. Change them if you need to: Composition rules explains each field with examples.
Section 4: Appearance
Here you choose Builder title, Description, Accent color and Corner radius (px). Under the fields is the Builder preview, which updates as you type. If you don’t want to deal with it now, keep the starting values: you can change them later. All the details are in Builder appearance.
Section 5: Summary and creation
- Check the Summary: Name, Price, Sources (for example “6 variants + 1 collections”) and Composition (for example “3 items” or “3–5 items”). If a row says “To fill in” or “To complete”, something is missing.
-
Select Create as draft (at the bottom of the page or in the bar at the top).
What you’ll see: the box page opens, with the box name as its title and the green “Box saved as a draft” panel: “Customers do not see it yet. Publish it to put it on its product page.” The panel already has the Publish button.
Your Shopify catalog now has a new product with the box name, in draft. This is the “box product”: don’t edit it by hand, the app manages it.
To start over before saving, select Discard in the bar at the top: the form goes back to empty.
Troubleshooting
“Select at least one variant or collection.” appears. You haven’t chosen any product. Go back to section 2.
“Enter a valid price greater than zero.” appears. The price is empty, zero or has more than two decimals. Type for example 70 or 70.50.
“The selected sources exceed the 100-variant limit.” appears. The chosen collections contain too many variants. Remove a collection or some variants.
“One of the selected variants is no longer available.” appears. A product was set to draft, archived or deleted while you were working. Reopen the picker and update your choice.
“The creation session has expired. Reopen the page.” appears. Too much time has passed. Go back to Boxes and select Create box again.
